Since the closing, if you haven't phantomed yourself away, you would have heard many C-Towners complaining about suffering from Buaya Week withdrawal symptoms.
This photographer is also the soccer TM, and since half the soccer team seems to come from Block C, she has heard endless complaints DURING training about how they now have no more yummy food waiting for them when they go back to their rooms, and how their TM should start buaya-ing them during training. Nonsense, I say. Just kick those balls. Pun intended.
Nonetheless, hope all had a happy and memorable Buaya Week 2008!
The Buaya Week closing ceremony was held at the rooftop, with C-Towners seated comfortably in a cozy semi-circle.
Our blockheads (pun not really intended) kickstarted the night with announcing the titles to be won that night.
1) Block C Buaya King
2) Block C Buaya Queen
3) Block C Buaya Prince
4) Block C Buaya Princess
This year, we also had exclusive sashes fit for royalty. Block C royalty, that is.
And following trends seen in Sheares MPSH during the recent JCRC rallies, AGM and EOGM, C-Towners jumped crazily for the chance to "second" everything said. Cheap thrills ftw.
Notice how all the raised hands belong to the less fair gender. Boys, tsk.
Nominations begin.
1) Nominations for Buaya King 08/09
Grace nominating her buaya with a long, well-rehearsed speech.
Her buaya basking in the sweetness of her voice, oblivious to Xin Ying's "wth" look.
Kai Jia nominating her buaya. Photo attempts resulted in results like the one below, because..obviously very "moved" by her buaya's buayaing, she was "moving" non-stop.
Okay, that may have been lame, but at least it got the idea across right?
Her buaya looking oddly satisfied with himself.
Lai Mun nominating her buaya..
Her buaya choking up with tears at the thought of everything he had done for her.
Sharon nominating her buaya..
Who acted convincingly bochup, even though those standing near enough to him realized that he was shaking quite badly (which is why Matt is looking around trying to figure out what was happening). Butterflies in his stomach? Nah, must have been all those cranes and peacocks he folded.
Jiafen nominating her buaya..
While his fellow C-Towners are enthusiastically seconding his nomination, Jiafen's buaya seems pleased but not very interested. But who can blame him?
I wouldn't.
After all, his heart is miles away in Sweden.
2) Nominations for Buaya Queen 08/09
Yong Lun nominating his buaya. He was visibly touched by his buaya's expressions of love during the week, declaring that "she did things that my girlfriend will never even dream of doing for me".
Okay, fine. Maybe not in those exact words. But it was something along those lines, and it drove all C-Towners present wild with yells, cheers and wolf-whistles.
His buaya in the background, head bowed, looking shy and bashful.
Terence (old) nominating his buaya.
Unfortunately, a photo of his buaya is not available 'cos she was too busy being behind the camera.
Min Woo nominating his buaya, dressed lovingly in an appropriate shirt that made everyone present go "awwwww".
While she stands quietly at the back of the crowd beside VK, the latter gives this photographer a knowing smile.
Swee Foo nominating his buaya..
...for her now infamous "You Sweep Me off My Foot" buaya attempts. He says he knew who she was right from the start because "Emily has a very weird sense of humour that no one else can copy."
After the round of nominations, it was time for buaya/buaya revelations.
In line with the theme "C the Magic of Love", we came up with an ingenious idea to reveal the buaya/buayees.
Remember those primary school science lessons which showed you the magic of "invisible ink"?
We did.
]The procedure was supposed to go like this:
1) Call out a random person to the front
2) Pass him/her the piece of paper with his/her buaya's name smeared in invisible ink.
3) Have him/her hold the paper over the flame for a few seconds
4) Voila! He/she would be able to "C" the name of his/her buaya! (And hence in connection, "C" the Magic of Love, you see.)
As I said, that was how it was supposed to go. It doesn't mean it went that way. What happened was...things got a bit too hot to handle. Not surprising, given the fact that the average rating of a C-Towner on the "hotness scale" is significantly high.
Sigh. Okay, fine. Things got a little awry...and some papers had holes burnt in them. But you know, we should always look on the bright side of life. We should have started praying to the papers.
Did I hear you say "Huh, you siao or what? Pray to papers? What's the link?"
Well...papers with holes in them are holey right?
Did you just say "Uh huh...So...?"
Urm..holey holy! Get it?
STOP ROLLING YOUR EYES! LATER DROP OUT THEN YOU KNOW!
Disclaimer: We tried the procedure out prior, but apparently different paper = different results. Sorry for any inconvenience/disappointment caused!
Oh, this Buaya Week, special mention needs to go to Zhen Lin, who took on the task of 2 buayees all by himself! Applause please!
See that expression of his below? It's the classic "Handsome Pig" (or so he calls himself) expression, and this photographer is going to give you a step by step guide on how to elicit that expression from him.
Step 1: Approach Zhen Lin
Step 2: Start a conversation with him
Step 3: Switch the topic to Buaya Week
Step 4: Say casually "Zhen Lin, I heard you had 2 buayees. Xiong right?"
Step 5: Continue the conversation: "Heard one of them reciprocated your buaya-ing efforts with a delicious apple waffle."
Step 6: Use the punch line "And you wrote a thank you note and signed off 'Love, Zhen Lin.' Why did you reveal yourself like that??"
That's all it takes, really.
Next, highlights of the revelation...Where it became obvious which Buayas were the most zai in concealing their identities.
Samson's shell-shocked expression when he found out who "Sam Daughter" was made her double up in unrestrained glee.
And Sze Hui, who confidently looked at CK and pointed him out as her Buaya.
But no, she was so wrong.
Imagine her surprise/shock when Chris walked up to the front and whipped out a bouquet of 99 handmade roses.
He had to sleep at ungodly hours (if he ever slept at all, that is) cos he could only prepare the stuff when Sze Hui was asleep. And because of this, she was firmly convinced that CK was her buaya..for some reason involving CK's slippers that she will be in the best position to tell you about. Though I'm sure CK will also gladly tell you the story if you ask him nicely.
Everybody go "awwwww" now.
So sweet! (:
Kane's revelation present was a scrapbook of Jiafen's most unglam photos...ever. Check out her chagrined expression when he happily flipped through the book for the audience's amusement.
And then, Valerie's buaya - the infamous "fisherman" came to light.
Let me tell you a story between Val and her buaya.
Somehow, Val got the notion that Chris was her buaya. So she set out trying to trick him into admitting it. That night, while Chris was barely awake and folding flowers for Sze Hui, Val saw her chance and leapt into action (the trap: she wrote a postcard to her buaya that morning). The dialogue went more or less like this:
Val: Chris!
Chris: Uh..yea?
Val: The postcard cute right?
Chris: nodding distractedly Yah, very cute.
Val: Hahahahahaha! Caught you!
Chris: Eh, wait. What postcard?
Val: Don't bluff!
So during revelation, Val strode up to the front, and announced: "Chris, come out lah!"
But Mr. Fisherman turned out to be none other than one of our two pageant contestants...Mr Kenneth Yong!
Val whipped out a sack filled with UFOs (Unidentified & Fishy Objects). She screamed at Kenneth (to the horror of all C-Towners present): "I BOUGHT YOU A REAL, DEAD FISH". After which she proceeded to rummage around in the sack, throwing out balls of paper on the floor (and on people near her), while Kenneth looked on in trepidation (and other C-Towners started visibly edging away to give the dead fish as wide a berth as was possible).
In the end, a very, very high Val drew out a toy fish that when turned on, vibrated noisily. Please note the pun is not intended. This photographer is only an innocent and young girl.
No comments allowed. Next.
Reciprocation at its best. "I Love My Buaya" and "I Love My Buayee" shirts. So sweet!
Maybe too sweet. Mingyi & Liyong, where are you? For those of you who just went "huh" for the Nth time, Mingyi & Liyong are the resident C-Town dentistry students. Who else better to cure tooth decay from an overdose of sweetness? Keke.
Incredible Hulk also made a guest appearance in C-Town. He was topless because his clothes got ripped to shreds when he transformed into that big green thing. Poor thing.
And if you look closely at the photo below, you will realise that it shows not one, but many Incredible Hulks. Only the best for C-Towners.
Can't see it?
Well...Many posing with Incredible Hulk = Many Incredible Hulks!
Of course, why else?
You, you, you and you! Stop saying "omg let's pond her" with each line you read. That threat is getting too stale already.
And...revelation surprises...the 3 couples who mutually buaya-ed each other.
Fate decreed:
Pair 1: Tat Chin & Lee Ling
Pair 2: Yong Lun & Bei En
Pair 3: Alex & Shimin
Royalty crowned for the night:
Buaya King Swee Foo and his buayee Grace:
Buaya Queen (this photographer) and her buayee Terence:
Buaya Prince Terence and his buayee Kai Jia:
Buaya Princess Lai Mun and her buayee Yik Hung:
While the Buaya Queen is demure and gentle (and no, the Buaya Queen is not the Buaya Princess's mother), the Buaya Princess delights in showing rude hand signs.
Then you wonder, why does her buaya (Horace, below) look so scared beside her?
Last but not least, to round this off, a photo of our beloved blockheads (no, no, of course the pun on "blockheads" is not intended), who have C-een the Magic of Love!
And this post marks the last of the incredibly long Buaya Week posts. This photographer apologizes for the belated post, but post-buaya week fatigue set in first, followed by inertia. But taking into account the fact that this photographer finally moved her lazy butt to blog this early on a rainy Sunday morning when everyone else is asleep and she could be nua-ing, but didn't - please do forgive her.
Hope you enjoyed these Buaya Week reads!
More importantly, hope you had fun during Buaya Week, and ended it on a high note.
Till Buaya Week 2009, cheers! (:
