CNY dinner 2009

3rd February 2009 saw C-Towners decked out in various shades of red, ready to dig into the Sheares CNY steamboat dinner.

As the entertainment for the evening started, it became clear that C-Towners are dominant in the culture scene. From the geyao performance alone, 5 out of the 8 singers were C-Towners (see below). And the second performer from the right (a.k.a Tan Zhen Lin or his self-awarded moniker 'Handsome Pig') collected many audience comments with his rousing rendition of CNY songs. The comments went along the line of "Why that guy self-high?" and "Errr...he very enthu leh", while others simply ignored him. :D

As the night wore on, C-Towners were feeling up to some loving. So Lee Loong and Zhang Ren started the ball rolling with an intimate embrace for the camera (unprompted, if I may add). How sweet. They obviously can't wait for Buaya Week 2010 to start.

Adding on to the atmosphere of loving was one of our 2 SWOCs for next year..Mr Lau Hao Liang with his hilarious recitation of "Sheares Hall roses come from the world's most mountainous regions, filled with love, sweat and emotion". And no, there was no need for me to refer to the video to remember that.

Then Horace, after seeing Jie Shen resplendently decked out in his God of Fortune ensemble (sorry, I don't have a photo of that), wanted his 5 minutes of fame too. Hence, he ran up onto the stage to answer Leonard's question of "What is the title of the SP play this year".  The answer, as most people know by now, is "Accidental Death of an Anarchist".

Horace, who incidentally is also the SP Sets IC, answered, "The silent death of the i-don't-know something something". No surprise that the entire comm hall burst out laughing. But in his spirit of perseverance (and much help from Leonard), he eventually got the answer right, and a pair of tickets to the SP production this year. However, as aforementioned, he is the SP sets IC, and will NOT be able to watch the production. Doesn't it make you wonder who he's giving those tickets to? Hurhurhur...

Now, onto a different topic altogether..children! Don't close the window yet, because this segment features a few C-Towners too! And so the story begins....

Ana was busy checking out her manicure..

And David was hungrily eating a hotdog. Btw, check out those dark eye rings. For a kid, he sure has them bad. Must be all those late nights in Block A, don't you think? But that's a story for another day. For now, let's continue. As I was saying, David was eating.

And Shane was engrossed in fiddling with  his watch, so much so that he didn't notice 2 C-Towners creeping up onto him via stealth mode.

By the time his head jerked up to Valerie's cry of "Faster take photo!!", he was already caught in the carefully planned ambush. Not one to admit defeat easily, he valiantly tried to escape.

But alas, it is pure foolishness for a young boy to hope to compete with a leggy brunette in terms of speed. He barely took 2 steps before Valerie's long arms were around him.

Before he could move another muscle, Valerie jumped onto him, pinning him onto the floor, while frantically shouting "Faster help me take photo before he runs away again!" Obediently, I trotted up while Minghui came onto the scene to keep Shane in position.

Valerie's shouts alerted David (foreground) and Ana (background), and they ran to aid Shane. After all, that's what friends are for. Wow, these children are teaching us wonderful things.

While Ana looked on in incredulity, Minghui and Valerie were still trying to take a proper photo with Shane (by who this time was desperate enough to crawl away on his hands and legs).

It took Ana only a few seconds to size up the situation. And oh man, was she fierce. She shouted at our 2 C-Towners at the top of her voice: "Shane is my friend, not your friend!" Dumbfounded, Shane's fanclub froze. Upon which Ana continued her tirade, angrily pushing and smacking the 2 poor C-Towners. It was a sight to behold. Ana was really, really scary. Never risk her wrath.

Leaving Ana to hold the fort, Shane finally made good his escape, running to safety as fast as his legs could take him.

Her task completed, Ana goes off in search of her friend, even venturing to look beneath the table for him. But to no avail. In her frustration, she runs back to poor Minghui to give her a few more angry pushes.

But Ana was venting her anger on the wrong person this time..because Val had cornered the two little boys in their bid to flee to the safety of their homes.  Oh hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Good for Shane and David that they're learning this from an early age..and from a benign lady like Val. They'll know better next time to accommodate this lady's wishes.

Meanwhile, it is obvious that Minghui is enamored by small kids. Kane, take the hint!
